And barring the fact that both Nicholas Cage and Eva Mendes look ridiculous, and the girl in the background looks like me after a full week of law school, something bothered me about this photo. I puzzled. I mused. I mulled over every random factoid in my brain.
And finally, I remembered. I have been there.
The Hotel Excelsior Resort, Venice Lido, was where the water taxi dropped us off when my family visited Lido. It also happens to be the primary arrival area of celebrities who are attending the Venice Film Festival. My family has a picture on this very same dock (not taken by paparazzi, of course.) My brain recognized, of all things, the dock itself, with the wood in the middle and the red border around it.I remember how much fun we had at the beach that day (although it was hotter than hell and after two minutes in the water, I had quickly remembered that not all water in the world is fresh water.) I distinctly remember, while waiting for the water taxi that would take us back to Venice, how awesome it would be to stay at the hotel for the rest of the summer.
AND LOOK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED! I WOULD HAVE MET EWAN MCGREGOR!
