On a Merry Chase

Last night I paid $12 for a movie. TWELVE DOLLARS. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. They wouldn't give me a student discount despite the fact that I (for once) had my student ID on me. Ok, they wouldn't give the discount because it was a "special showing" in "our state of the art theatre" with assigned seating. Whatever. Twelve dollars is ridiculous.

Thank goodness that movie was Inception because had the movie been awful, I think my rage at the ticket price would be uncontrollable. Inception is an excellent, excellent film. There are many similarities between it and Memento, another Christopher Nolan film, except the cast of Inception is far more attractive. I don't know if I've enjoyed a Leonardo DiCaprio movie this much since Titanic. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was amazing. Marion Cotillard killed it; she was excellent. Cillian Murphy is still creepy. Michael Caine is on screen for all of 5 minutes total, but his presence is just a sign to all that this movie is worth watching. Two and a half hours flew by. The plot was challenging to follow at times, but not impossibly so. And there's plenty of ambiguity left in the resolution to spawn all sorts of excellent Internet theories for me to occupy my time reading when I should really be researching. I only have a few critiques. First, after awhile Ellen Page's character simply stands around and says "Can you do this? You have to do this!!" which is really, really annoying when all the other characters have things to get do and are far more entertaining to watch. Second, apparently Marion Cotillard's character's name is Mal (I know you all speak French, so no need to translate :) ), but I thought that everyone was calling her Mol, as in short for Molly, and it became really annoying when everyone continued to call her by what I thought was a nickname. Third, no one except Lil Sis and I laughed at parts of the movie. Maybe it was just the audience we were sitting with, maybe they missed the jokes, but there was no need to be so serious for the entire time.

Leonardo DiCaprio is really beginning to resemble Jack Nicholson.

So, after three weeks of Toy Story 3, Despicable Me, and Inception, I've run out of movies that I want to see. Perhaps this is for the best. My wallet will be happier. ... TWELVE DOLLARS. That's ridiculous.

1 made a huge mistake.:

Oooh! I have Inception on my must see list! I'm glad you liked it, now I will definitely make time to see it!

BTW $12 dollars doesn't seem that far off to me...I'm blaming it on the fact that since I've moved to Chicago I pay $11.50.
