Win

It's hardly ever a good thing to be asked by your boss to please step into her office because she needs to speak with you. Especially when your boss never uses her office except to have very important, serious conversations with people. So, when I was asked this by my boss today, I was definitely worried. I took a quick inventory of what I was doing, what programs I had open, what I had sitting on my desk, whether I had just been gossiping about workers, in order to look for a clue of why I was in trouble. Beyond chatting with Lil Sis, I was actually working pretty diligently for once. So, then I went into her office confused. She closed the door and smiled. I was so scared. But then, good news! The firm had done really well in the past year, and she and the other attorneys were pleased with my work, so I was getting a bonus. OMG. I couldn't believe it. She kept talking, but I wasn't really paying attention, and every time she took a breath, I would blurt "Thank you." I was apparently the last person in the office told (everyone got a bonus) and then we closed the office at 3pm and went to the bar. It was an awesomely good day.

However, a question. What is considered an appropriate drink to order when you are out with co-workers/bosses/supervisors? Everyone always talks about how at work functions you order one drink, and sip it throughout the event and never, ever get drunk, but no one ever talks about what is an appropriate drink. I ended up ordering last and since 5 out of 9 people had already ordered beer, that's what I chose too. (I briefly considered a vodka tonic but I've never had one as good as Pomme can make them.) However, since I ordered an Oberon and everyone else got Bud Light, they got bottles and mine came in a mug. Which was awkward to drink. So, I'm taking drink suggestions from all of you; what would you drink in a nice restaurant/bar setting with co-workers?

P.S. This post is being written very late because I can't decide whether or not to sleep when there is a tornado watch. On one hand, it's night time and I should sleep. I sleep through thunderstorms all the time. On the other hand, tornadoes are one of my biggest fears along with spiders and being wrapped in velvet. I can't decide, so I will probably just keep watching the West Wing until I pass out from exhaustion. I see that there is a tornado warning in your hometown, Pomme; so glad you could make it back to the state in time for the summer storms!

3 made a huge mistake.:

YAY BONUS!!!!!

Can't help you on the drink thing though, haven't actually been to many "let's get drinks after work"...and most of the people at my work order what they want and get drunk anyway. You should've seen our golf outings I've been to. Total drunk-asses! Even one of our VP's haha.

CONGRATS ON THE BONUS!!!!

Like any other food-related endeavor, I would say that it is a good choice to follow in line with what others are tending toward. Beer was a good choice in this instance.

In any instance, steer clear of extremes. Order alcohol only if it is understood that you are going for this reason. Don't order something ornate--like a multi-layer frozen thing or something with an umbrella--again, unless this is the express purpose. If you go to a Margarita bar, that's a whole new story.

Also, stay away from ordering something that *I* would normally order. Vodka water, while inexpensive, screams alcoholic. Not what we're going for here.

Stick to beer or a standard--like a rum and coke--until you have the lay of the land.
