It Was Our Love, Brought Down A Kingdom

I was all set to go to bed early last night. Of course, by early I mean midnight. But, my property reading took longer than I thought, so I settled into bed around 1am. And as I perused TV Guide to find something to fall asleep to, I found:

Tristan + Isolde

OMG YOU GUYS. I have been wanting to watch this for forever in order to mock it. And it certainly contains plenty of mock-able material.

The high point for me was that the little boy from Love Actually (the one that plays Liam Neeson's stepson and was in that episode of Doctor Who) plays young Tristan. And he's very cute. Even as his parents are being slaughtered.

Oh, and then Rufus Sewell's character gets his hand chopped off. Which is normally an interesting plot point, but after watching both Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Arrested Development earlier this week, I feel it is overdone.

And then, Cute!Little!Tristan became Moody!James Franco!Tristan and really, James Franco doesn't really do moody that well (see: Spiderman 2) and the storyline isn't that compelling, so the movie begins to fail.

Plus, James Franco!Tristan has this AWFUL hairstyle that doesn't do him any favors.

And then Sophia Myles shows up as Isolde the Irish princess, and I just can't help laughing. She's not a bad actress per say, but her Irish accent starts out strong and then practically disappears by the end of the movie. Also, with Sophia Myles I have an irrational hatred of her for dating David Tennant (see also: Georgia Moffett) and thus anytime she is on screen I have no sympathy for her.

Plus the dialogue in this movie seems clunky (see title of this post for an example.) Or maybe it was because I was too tired to keep up.

But, I stuck it out till the end. 3:30am. . . . Yes, I do need a life. Why do you ask?

Anyway, to sum up:
  • this is a great movie to mock
  • this is a great movie if you want to watch something on a black and white TV as the primary color palate for the entire movie is grey/brown/dark blue
  • fire is a very efficient way to raze a town in Great Britain in the "Dark Ages"
  • there is a reason this movie plays at 1am
The End.

1 made a huge mistake.:

Heehee. I definitely went to see that movie on a date. It was not easy to digest during the flim.
