What is there to say that hasn't been said?
I'm proud of my country. I'm proud of each and every person who voted, regardless of who they voted for. I'm proud of the youth vote. I'm proud that when America had a chance to make a change, we took it.
It doesn't change everything. At this moment, in fact, it doesn't change a single thing, except that I probably won't have to hear the word "poll" on CNN for a good 3 months. But it's a start. It's a few more (large) cracks in that metaphorical glass ceiling on our way to perfecting this union.
I'm beyond excited for what's to come. A little scared and anxious maybe, but I think that's healthy with all the problems the new president will face. And I think I'm prepared for some letdown. Paris ne s'est pas fait en un jour, and all that.
I spent most of the night watching CNN and monitoring the CNN, BBC, and France 2 websites. I can't quite get over how invested other countries were/are in the US elections, when we pay so little attention to theirs. But then again, I suppose leader of America is as close to a world president as exists at the moment. I think the reaction of the rest of the world is telling. America the symbol: hope, freedom, democracy; that intangible American dream, doesn't just belong to us as American citizens anymore. It's bigger than that. It's more responsibility for us for sure. Responsibility to uphold those ideals and be the model, leader, and partner the rest of the world wants. After yesterday, I have absolute confidence that we are up to the challenge.
I was insanely jealous of anyone who was in Chicago; jealous of anyone who got to celebrate with the people around them. Me? I just couldn't stop smiling.
Euphoria.
yes we can. yes we did. yes we will.

1 made a huge mistake.:
I like what you wrote. It is a start, a good start. No it wont be perfect and it wont fix everything. There will be mistakes and things that fall apart. But we needed something new, something different because it just wasn't working anymore. I just hope people remember he is just one person and humans aren't without faults.
Next election we'll all be together at a bar. Hopefully with people who think the same as us because its an experience. Or maybe we'll work on a campaign and be at the after party?
