Bright Lights

So, I wanted to be to bed 2 1/2 hours ago so that I could get up and drive to law school tomorrow from home. I came home yesterday so that I could get my car looked at to stop the funny sound from happening. So far, in my family's (non) expert opinion, it could be a problem with a muffler, a hole in the tale pipe, a possible carburetor issue, or a sign that the whole car is going to explode at any moment (the last one's mine).

Alas, due to the fact that I had homework for orientation tomorrow, coupled with me not cleaning my room for 2 months and suddenly needing to find a specific folder, and added to the fact that there are police lights outside my window because a car is pulled over and some teens were hauled to the backseat of it and then back-up came and they keep searching the car but they have not SHUT THE FLASHING LIGHTS OFF all means that I am awake way later in the night than I wanted.

So, things that have happened.

Quit work. Scored some really awesome gift certificates (including PF Chang's) and a pretty awesome going away lunch.

Had my first day of law school orientation. Met some cool people and some not so cool people. Moi, remember how we were having that conversation about how people use "undergrad" as a bad word? Kinda the same way people say "freshman" in high school. Dripping with disgust, contempt and superiority. I found out that it's the same way people say "1L" in law school. Comments such as, "Oh, that professor doesn't teach 1L's" or "Well, for awhile you'll just be 1L's, but next semester you'll finally start getting somewhere" are very commonplace. I skipped out early so that I could go pick up my reserved books from the bookstore and due to my lack of bringing a list of which books I needed (figuring that since I told them what classes I would be in, they would be able to pick the correct books), I ended up buying half of the wrong books. I need to return 4 and buy 6. This requires a trip back to a place that is 4x the size of my old college book store and 10x more staffed. It also has a tv in the floor! Yeah, I'm easy.

The one thing that might help me is that a professor I had in undergrad also went to this law school and made us use some techniques that I will have to use here. My assignment for tomorrow was essentially something that she would have assigned me, but with a much harder case. Look at me, finding the silver lining!

I also have a slight dilemma. I was given a laptop by the law school. But I don't really like it. There's really nothing wrong with it: it's a Dell, has all the latest software, runs on Vista and comes with virus software. It's just... I think the actual computer is refurbished from a few years ago (it has one of those little round buttons in the middle of the keyboard that you can also use for a mouse, remember those?) and I'm kinda a computer snob. So, I can't figure out if I can/should just use the computer I have (even though it has less memory then the new one) or if there is some special software on the new one that I will need to write papers and take exams. Dilemmas.

I have orientation from 8:30-2:45 tomorrow. Then I work from 4:30-8:30. In between I will have to stop at my apartment, call my phone company, call the comcast guy, call my parking permit people, and change for work. Ugh, I'm already tired. Going to bed so late won't help and neither will the fact that I am still sleeping off my late-night-Olympics-gymnastics-watching obsession. Damn you Bela Karolyi for being so entertaining!

Also, as an FYI. I don't think I will be able to update much in the next week or so as I am still don't have the Internet. Hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday!

2 made a huge mistake.:

OMG I love Bela too! I wish I had a Bela!

Have fun at law school! I am sure all is going to go well and soon the law school snobs will be impressed with your genius that they won't care that this is your first semester!

So, you can just give me your refurbished comp, right?

Since you don't want it?

Good plan!
